Match Report: TS Galaxy 0–2 Orlando Pirates
Mbombela Stadium | Tuesday, 30 September 2025 | Kick-off: 19:30
TS Galaxy put on a determined performance under the Mbombela lights on Tuesday evening, holding their own against a strong Orlando Pirates outfit in a Betway Premiership clash that ended 2–0 in favour of the visitors.
The Rockets entered the game with confidence following a string of solid showings at home and looked to make another statement in front of their fans. Early on, Sead Ramović’s men showed composure and discipline, pressing high and transitioning quickly through the wings.
Pirates had an early scare for Galaxy when Tshepang Moremi hit the post in the 4th minute, but Ira Tapé remained calm and alert between the sticks. The Rockets began to settle into rhythm shortly after, moving the ball with intent and finding pockets of space through Sphesihle Maduna and Puso Dithejane.
Midway through the first half, a penalty was awarded to Pirates following a collision in the box — a call that left Galaxy players frustrated. Evidence Makgopa converted from the spot in the 20th minute to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.
Despite the setback, Galaxy showed great mental strength. Mlungisi Mbunjana and Khulumani Ndamane steadied the midfield, while Qobolwakhe Sibande and Dithejane pushed forward with confidence. Dithejane came close to equalizing in the 31st minute, firing a powerful right-footed shot that was superbly tipped over the bar by Sipho Chaine.
The Rockets continued to create promising openings before the break, and their growing confidence had the Mbombela crowd on its feet.
At halftime, Coach Ramović introduced Junior Zindoga to add pace and flair in attack — a move that immediately injected energy into the second half. The Rockets grew into the game, matching Pirates stride for stride.
Goalkeeper Ira Tapé was again impressive, pulling off several vital saves to keep Galaxy in contention, including strong stops from Deon Hotto and Tshegofatso Mabasa. The Ivorian shot-stopper’s leadership from the back was evident, rallying his teammates to stay focused and compact.
In attack, substitutes Mory Keita and Paulinho made an impact, combining well with Sibande and Dithejane to stretch the Pirates’ defense. Keita nearly found the equalizer in the 87th minute when his quick turn and left-footed shot forced Chaine into another crucial save.
As Galaxy committed men forward in search of a late goal, Pirates capitalized on the counter. In the 94th minute, Tshegofatso Mabasa headed in a well-placed cross from Hotto to make it 2–0.
Even then, the Rockets refused to fade. In stoppage time, Maduna’s delivery found Ndamane, whose header tested Chaine once again. The late surge reflected the spirit and never-say-die attitude that has become a hallmark of this TS Galaxy side.
Though the scoreline didn’t favour them, the performance underlined Galaxy’s growing cohesion and belief. With brave defending, tireless running, and moments of creativity, there was much for fans to be proud of — and even more for the team to build on as the season progresses.
